English Translation Source Index for Ethiopian Bible Study
By EthiopianBibleBooks · Version 1.0 · Sources checked November 2, 2026
This index documents 10 identifiable English translation resources relevant to Ethiopian Bible study. It distinguishes individual-book editions, historical reading texts, catalogued publications, translation notes and comparison texts. Each entry links to the evidence used to describe it.
What this index establishes: a traceable starting bibliography, with a stated level of verification. What it does not establish: a complete English Ethiopian canon, church authorization, or a ranking based on verse-by-verse translation assessment.
Download the metadata: CSV · JSON. The files contain the index records and source links, not the translated books.
Why the source trail matters
Two books can use the same English title while printing different translations. Two translations can present different recensions of a similarly named ancient work. A record should therefore identify more than a title: contributor, edition, textual basis where documented, access scope and limits.
The distinction matters particularly for Meqabyan and Maccabees. The United Bible Societies' TIPs resource identifies Ethiopian Meqabyan as different in content from the Greek works with the related name. The same resource credits named English translations and adaptations for several Ethiopian texts. TIPs source notes.

Annotated edition records
1. 1 Enoch: The Hermeneia Translation
Contributors: George W. E. Nickelsburg and James C. VanderKam. Publisher: Fortress Press. Publication: October 1, 2012. Paperback ISBN: 9780800699109. eBook ISBN: 9781451424379.
The publisher describes a translation that considers Ethiopic, Greek and Dead Sea Aramaic evidence. Its page supplies contents and samples. The scope is 1 Enoch, rather than all Enoch literature or a whole Ethiopian Bible. Publisher evidence.
2. Jubilees: The Hermeneia Translation
Contributor: James C. VanderKam. Publisher: Fortress Press. Publication: September 1, 2020. Paperback ISBN: 9781506467030. eBook ISBN: 9781506467047.
The publisher identifies the work as a translation with selected notes drawn from the larger Hermeneia commentary. This record concerns the compact translation, rather than the full commentary set. Publisher evidence.
3. The Ethiopic Book of Enoch
Contributor: Michael A. Knibb, in consultation with Edward Ullendorff. Publisher: Clarendon Press/Oxford University Press. Publication: 1978. Format: two volumes. Catalogue ISBN: 0198261632.
Indiana University's record describes English and Ethiopic material, a facsimile of Rylands Ethiopic MS 23, critical apparatus, translation and commentary. The record establishes the publication and its scope; it is not a free full-text licence. Check individual volume contents when locating a copy. University catalogue.
4. R. H. Charles's Book of Enoch, 1917
Translator: R. H. Charles. Introduction: W. O. E. Oesterley. Publisher on title page: Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, London. Edition date: 1917.
The inspected title page identifies this historical edition and states US public-domain status. Record the date rather than treating all Charles publications or modern reprints as bibliographically identical. Web-reader interfaces and sign-in options may change. Digitized title page.
5. R. H. Charles's Book of Jubilees, 1917
Translator: R. H. Charles. Introduction: G. H. Box. Publishers on title page: Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge/Macmillan. Edition date: 1917.
The page identifies an English translation from the Ethiopic text. Its host gives both a US public-domain statement and a noncommercial file-use notice. This index links to the resource rather than distributing its files. It does not silently substitute the dates of Charles's other Jubilees editions. Digitized title page.
6–7. First and Second Ethiopian Maccabees/Meqabyan
Publications: Dalcassian Press's First Book of Ethiopian Maccabees (I Meqabyan), 2018, and Second Book of Ethiopian Maccabees (II Meqabyan), 2023. The records associate D. P. Curtin and Bekele Tesfaye with these editions; contributor-role presentation can vary between listings. The second-book record identifies ISBN 9798869211484.
These entries document identifiable English publications. This review did not independently establish a critical textual basis, church approval or every verse's coverage. They should be cited as publications, rather than as certified benchmarks of translation quality. First-book record · Second-book record.
8. Translation Insights and Perspectives: Geʽez
This United Bible Societies resource identifies English Meqabyan work credited to Haileyesus Woldemariam, and gives work-specific credits for Enoch, Jubilees and 4 Baruch, including named adaptations of existing translations.
Its inspected pages supply provenance and verse-related insights. That evidence should not be expanded into a claim that the site provides a complete downloadable English Ethiopian Bible. Resource and contributor credits.
9. Paraleipomena Jeremiou: longer and shorter versions
Electronic editor: Robert A. Kraft, December 15, 1987. The longer-version basis is credited to Kraft and Ann Elizabeth Purintun's 1971/1972 work; the shorter translation is credited to William Newby.
The University of Pennsylvania page provides both English versions. This is a Greek-tradition comparison resource associated with the work often called 4 Baruch. It is not established here as textually identical to the Ethiopic recension. The header includes noncommercial-use and attribution conditions. Translator's electronic edition.
10. A New English Translation of the Septuagint: electronic edition
Editors: Albert Pietersma and Benjamin G. Wright, with named book translators. The project site supplies masters from the Oxford University Press 2009 second printing and links later corrections.
NETS is useful for comparing Greek Jewish Scriptures. It is not an Ethiopian Bible: Greek Maccabees should not be relabeled Meqabyan, and the site's listed corpus does not supply Enoch or Jubilees. Personal scholarly download permission does not permit sale or redistribution of the files. Official electronic edition.
Methodology and limits
The inclusion rule was an identifiable English resource with inspectable publisher, translator, organization, university or publication metadata. Verification describes the evidence inspected, not a claim that every translated verse was checked. Empty ISBN fields in the downloads mean no ISBN was verified for that exact record.
We excluded anonymous “complete Bible” claims from the verified-edition table when a contents and translation-source trail had not been established. Exclusion is not a finding of fraud. This is a selected bibliography, not an exhaustive census, and it contains no certification of a complete English canon.
Bibliographic dates describe the recorded editions. The check date describes this review. Neither is a promise about current price, inventory, link availability or a publisher's later revisions.
